On Saturday, 21st September, the UK Plant Operator of the Year Competition took place at the CITB National Construction College, attracting top plant operators from across the country.
This year’s Tower Crane category, sponsored by WOLFFKRAN Ltd, saw 11 skilled operators competing on the WOLFF 6023 Clear tower crane. Competitors were challenged to demonstrate precision and control through a series of tasks, including accurate radius placements and load manoeuvring. Expert crane instructors from CITB oversaw the competition, showcasing the high level of expertise required for such a vital role in the construction industry.
The winner of this year’s Tower Crane Operator category was Steve Scott, our Operators Manager. Steve demonstrated exceptional skill, securing victory in a thrilling finish, just seconds ahead of last year’s champion. For his outstanding performance, Steve was awarded a £2,500 prize.
Sean Hutson, SHEQ manager & Head of Lifting from WOLFFKRAN Ltd, commented, "The whole day was well-organised, from registration to the activities. It was a fantastic family day out with fun activities like remote-controlled diggers for the kids and paintballing. The tower crane event drew a lot of attention, and competitors from across the UK enjoyed taking part."
In addition to the competition, the event had a family-friendly atmosphere, with onsite accommodation, excellent catering, and a variety of activities to entertain both attendees and children. It was a memorable day that brought together plant operators and their families in celebration.
A big thank you to UK Plant Operator Magazine and CITB for organising such a fantastic event.
